Thrift Store Find

When we think about thrift store we tend to think of clothing and home items. Sometimes we can find some wonderful quilting items. People are either downsizing, have had to go to a nursing home or most sadly have died and their stashes need a new home. This can be the outcome.

One of my customers went to ARC and found these beautiful appliquéd blocks. She had to take them home! Next, it was time to make a plan for how to put them into a quilt. Would there need to be other blocks made? If there would need to be more blocks, what would those blocks be? Sashing and borders, yes or no?

Once the plan was made, it was time to find the perfect fabrics. As you can see, she did that. The fabrics look like they were picked at the same time as the fabrics for the appliqué blocks. She made classic blocks to enhance the appliqué blocks but not overwhelm them.

She picked the dragonflies edge-to-edge quilting motif to quilt it. She wanted something that was open so the motif wouldn't take away from the overall quilt design.

This is a beautiful quilt that until you're told the story you would never think started at a thrift store.

Especially if you're a new quilter or one on a budget, don't forget about the possibilities that thrift stores hold.

Happy quilting!
