One longarmer's advice - Final Steps

What do you need to know about the longarm process?

ree

There are a few more things you need to consider before taking your quilt to your longarmer. First is how do you want your quilt finished? Do you want edge to edge, border to border or custom? All longarmers do not provide all of these services. I provide edge to edge and border to border. Also, you need to have a price in mind. The type of quilting is going to determine the cost. Custom quilting is usually much more expensive than edge to edge.

Second, once you have considered the type of quilting and found a longarmer that provides these services it’s time to consider your motif.

You may want a floral design or maybe something more linear strikes your fancy. If you don’t have any idea, you can sit down with your longarmer and pick out the pattern together. Some people even leave the decision totally up to the longarmer.

The third decision you will make is thread color. Do you want your thread to blend into the background or be part of the top's design? This is also something you and your longarmer can discuss when dropping off your quilt.

Your longarmer may provide other services. Some additional services I provide are ironing, trimming and binding. Think about what additional services you may want to take advantage of. If your longarmer has a website these services may be listed there.

Now you should have all the information you need to get your quilt quilted the way you want!
